Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev has reassured supporters that there is no need to panic about the team’s lack of goals at the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Leeds’ recent 1-0 defeat to Fulham highlighted just how fine the margins are in the battle for top-flight survival. A Gabriel Gudmundsson own goal was enough to separate the sides, leaving Leeds with the unwanted record of going four consecutive league matches without a goal from open play.

The pressure is mounting on head coach Daniel Farke to unlock a more clinical attacking formula ahead of the crucial clash with Wolves. Youngster Harry Gray has pushed for inclusion after scoring a sensational hat-trick for the under-21s, giving Farke a potential attacking option.

Ilia Gruev Calls for Patience

Despite concerns among fans, Bulgarian international Gruev believes Leeds are heading in the right direction and urged supporters to trust the process.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds ahead of the trip to Molineux to face bottom-of-the-table Wolves, Gruev said:

“I think it’s going to be in our favour because I think we will get better and better from week to week.

“Also, of course, you will have some weeks or some game days where maybe you don’t perform like you have to, like you want to, maybe lose a game, but the whole process, I think, is more important, and I think we are in a good way.

“We want to stay calm out of these games now. We didn’t concede in two games, unfortunately, now in the last game against Fulham, in the last minute, it was a tough one, but we want to keep our structure, to play our football.

“Nobody expects us to go to Wolverhampton and score a lot of goals. Of course, if it happens, great, and it can happen, but we want to stick to our principles, we want to play our football, and then it will come, the goals will come, I’m sure.”
