Dominic Calvert-Lewin Sends Message to Wolves Fans After Chant About Him

The atmosphere at Molineux shifted dramatically during Leeds United’s 3-1 victory over Wolves, as home supporters directed their frustration at chairman Jeff Shi and owners Fosun after focusing their chants towards Dominic Calvert-Lewin. For the Leeds striker, who had been the target of taunts before kick-off, the chants only added fuel to his performance.

Saturday’s clash was billed as an early-season six-pointer between two struggling Premier League sides. Wolves entered the game having lost their first four league fixtures—a run not seen in 127 years—while Leeds had failed to score from open play since Lukas Nmecha’s penalty against Everton on 18 August.

Leeds Fight Back After Early Setback

The match started poorly for Leeds when Ladislav Krejci gave Wolves the lead after just eight minutes. However, Daniel Farke’s side responded in emphatic fashion, turning the game around before half-time and securing their first away win of the season—and their first top-flight road victory since a 4-2 success at Molineux in March 2023.

Calvert-Lewin sparked the comeback with a superb header from Jayden Bogle’s cross, scoring his first goal for the club. Minutes later, he won the free-kick that Anton Stach converted with a thunderous strike to put Leeds ahead. Noah Okafor then added a third, ensuring a memorable day for the Whites.

Calvert-Lewin: “The Best Way to Shut Them Up Is to Score”

After the game, Calvert-Lewin revealed how he reacted to the Wolves fans’ chants, using it as motivation to deliver his best performance yet in a Leeds shirt.

“I think they had a chant going [about me],” Calvert-Lewin told BBC Match of the Day. “I heard my name and I thought, ‘Why are they singing my name?’

Obviously, the best way to shut them up is to score a goal at that end and point to my shirt.

Strikers feed off goals – it gives you confidence. It's nice to get my first goal for the club and I'll look to build on it.”

A Turning Point for Leeds United?

With Calvert-Lewin off the mark, Stach scoring a wonder free-kick, and Okafor adding his first goal, Leeds United will hope this result provides the momentum needed to climb the Premier League table. For Wolves, however, pressure on the owners and coaching staff continues to grow after a disastrous start.
