Gary Neville Makes U-Turn on Arsenal’s Noni Madueke: “He Looks One Hell of a Player”
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has reversed his stance on Arsenal’s summer signing Noni Madueke, admitting the winger has surprised him with his recent performances for both club and country. After a lukewarm spell at Chelsea, Madueke’s move to the Emirates was met with skepticism — but Neville now believes the England international could play a pivotal role in Mikel Arteta’s plans.

🔁 From Doubt to Admiration
Madueke joined Arsenal in a £48.5 million deal as one of eight new arrivals in a blockbuster summer window. His record at Chelsea — seven goals and three assists in 32 Premier League appearances — didn’t inspire much excitement among Gunners fans, and Neville himself was unconvinced.
“I’d seen him play quite a lot at Chelsea and when Arsenal signed him I thought, I can see why Chelsea sort of let him go,” Neville said on The Overlap. “I tell you – what a different player at Arsenal, and in the England games in the last few weeks.”
Madueke’s standout performances in England’s recent World Cup qualifiers, particularly on the right flank, have prompted Neville to suggest a tactical rethink at Arsenal.

🔄 Saka to the Left?
With Bukayo Saka nursing an injury and Gabriel Martinelli struggling for form on the left, Neville floated the idea of shifting Saka to the opposite wing to accommodate Madueke’s growing influence.
“Madueke looks one hell of a player on the right… some of the runs he made were really top level,” Neville said. “Saka is the better player, let’s be clear, but they could swap during games.”
Neville praised Madueke’s directness, physicality, and ability to beat defenders — qualities that have added a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack.

⚔️ Carragher Cautions Against Moving Saka
Jamie Carragher, speaking alongside Neville, acknowledged Madueke’s rise but warned against disrupting Arsenal’s balance by moving their star man.
“Moving your best player is hard,” Carragher said. “The problem Saka might have with Madueke is when they’re both with England… I’ve always liked Madueke, you don’t see many wingers who are big and strong.”
Carragher also noted that Madueke has arguably been England’s standout performer under Thomas Tuchel, adding intrigue to the selection dynamics for both club and country.
🔮 What It Means for Arsenal
Madueke’s emergence gives Arteta a welcome headache — and a wealth of options in wide areas. With Saka, Martinelli, Eze, and now Madueke all capable of starting, Arsenal’s attacking depth looks stronger than ever.
Neville’s U-turn is a testament to Madueke’s rapid adaptation and growing confidence. If he continues to impress, the winger could become one of the defining figures of Arsenal’s season — and a key piece in their pursuit of silverware.
